Events - In Beta: we're still testing the best way to get event info for companies :)
  • The Furlough Hustle is born out of the necessity to bring people back to the entrepreneurial spirit during uncertain times. We are inviting those impacted by the gov't shutdown to come out on Friday Feb. 1st and Sunday Feb 17th to meet entrepreneurs who are actively running their businesses. These meet and greet events are part of a larger showcase being held by Hood Hippies at St. Charles Towne Center in the hallway in front of Old Navy, H&M and Macy's Home Store.

These networking events are designed for people who already have a skill set, gift or talent and who are seeking to generate a new stream of income. There will also be opportunities to learn more about joining an established brand, such as Paparazzi, as joining a direct sales company has it's own advantages.

    Attendees will be able to

    1. Meet entrepreneurs in a variety of industries and ask questions.

    2. View a marketplace within St. Charles Towne Center that exists on weekends for local brands.

    3. Bounce ideas and better understand what it takes to earn money as an entrepreneur.

    4. Leave with ideas for their own future business model, setup, etc.

The key to surviving hard times is having multiple streams of income. A furlough is extremely difficult to bare, especially if the gov't position is the only stream of income in the home. Our aim is to plant seeds of determination so that people get back to being creative and working for themselves. So come out to meet and greet those of us currently engaged in entrepreneurial activities and understand that the only limits that exist are self imposed.

If you have any of the following skill sets then this is for you - sewing, baking, food and beverage makers, sales experience, skin care, soap, candles, vintage clothing items, designers, or a desire to learn more.

There will be 12 companies present on these dates. All vendors who register must be willing to share their stories, be willing to build their team if in direct sales and open to answering questions from attendees. Seeking Director level direct sales company reps. Vendor tickets are outlined below.

Free registration for attendees. The 1st 50 registered attendees to check in with Hood Hippies upon arrival will get a free gift.

Huge shout out to our swag bag sponsors!

  • In celebration of Black History Month our February selection is Marcus Samuelsson's The Red Rooster Cookbook : The Story of Food and Hustle in Harlem.

"When the James Beard Award-winning chef Marcus Samuelsson opened Red Rooster on Malcolm X Boulevard in Harlem, he envisioned more than a restaurant. It would be the heart of his neighborhood and a meet-and-greet for both the downtown and the uptown sets, serving Southern black and cross-cultural food. It would reflect Harlem's history. Ever since the 1930s, Harlem has been a magnet for more than a million African Americans, a melting pot for Spanish, African, and Caribbean immigrants, and a mecca for artists.

These traditions converge on Rooster’s menu, with Brown Butter Biscuits, Chicken and Waffle, Killer Collards, and Donuts with Sweet Potato Cream. They’re joined by global-influenced dishes such as Jerk Bacon and Baked Beans, Latino Pork and Plantains, and Chinese Steamed Bass and Fiery Noodles. Samuelsson’s Swedish-Ethiopian background shows in Ethiopian Spice-Crusted Lamb, Slow-Baked Blueberry Bread with Spiced Maple Syrup, and the Green Viking, sprightly Apple Sorbet with Caramel Sauce.

Interspersed with lyrical essays that convey the flavor of the place and stunning archival and contemporary photos, The Red Rooster Cookbook is as layered as its inheritance."
